LOCAL
SUSTAINABLE TOURISM

Murray Darling Scenic Flights is a business deeply linked to the basin communities of the Central Murray over which it flies and believes in “keeping it local”.

Pilot Peter McDonald lives and farms with his family on the banks of Thule Lagoon, the ancient bed of the Murray River. His scenic flights business adds to the tourism economy of the region with the benefits enriching the local economy.

The McDonald’s strongly believe that you have to step lightly and manage the land in a sustainable way.  Increasing understanding of the geography and complexity of the Basin’s magnificent landscapes enhances a sense of connection to place. They hope that with connection comes care.

Over the past 20 years Peter and Wendy have established native vegetation regeneration sites on their farm, including a remnant habitat wetland.  They manage and protect stands of Redgum timber on property.  In addition to this, to offset the carbon emissions of the Murray Darling Scenic Flights, 1% of ticket sales will go directly to support the environmental enhancement programs of Western Murray Land Improvement Group, a non for profit community run group which conducts landcare and regeneration works regionally. Keeping the environmental off sets local and real, is important to them.
